Rumors about the iPhone 5 Features have reached a fever pitch. The iPhone 5 is suspected to improve on the iPhone 4 in a number of ways. These include screen size, CPU capability, and camera resolution.
The iPhone 5 should simultaneously have a larger screen and smaller dimensions than the iPhone 4.
In the beta of Apple’s iCloud Photo Stream program, there is an iPhone icon that is designed differently than any existing iPhone; likely, it is an iPhone 5. Its home button is rectangular, and the screen takes up almost the entire front of the screen. When the icon is enlarged to be proportionate to the iPhone 4′s design, it reveals an overall smaller body.
The iPhone 4 uses the single-core 1GHz Apple A4 chip as its CPU; this is the same chip that powers the original iPad. The iPad 2 contains a dual-core 1GHz CPU called the Apple A5. If Apple follows a pattern they established with the iPhone 4, it is likely that the iPhone 5 will inherit the A5 chip. At the very least, this means that background processes will not so easily lead to framerate stutter on the iPhone 5 as they did in previous iPhone models. Also, new apps that are programmed to use multithreading will be able to run much faster.
The camera of the iPhone 5 will likely take pictures in twice the resolution of the iPhone 4 camera. The iPhone 4′s camera produced photos at 5 megapixels. This was a little ahead of the high-end smartphone standard at the time, but now high-end smartphones commonly take pictures with a resolution of 8 megapixels. The iPhone 5 is expected to follow suit.
There is now strong evidence for this, thanks to a photo of a plate of sushi that was recently discovered on the Internet. The photo itself is unremarkable, but its EXIF data shows that it was likely produced by an iPhone 5. The picture was scaled down from 8 megapixels to 5.12 megapixels, and its geotagged location is 1 Infinite Loop in Cupertino, California, otherwise known as Apple’s headquarters. The nature of the photo also indicates a different lens than the iPhone 4.
The iPhone 5 Features look to be a significant advance from the iPhone 4 on many technical fronts.
