Rumors continue to circulate about possible iPhone 5 features, but Apple is unlikely to release information about the device until June of 2012. Nevertheless, Apple fans have spent countless hours looking for clues, and as the iphone 5 release date approaches, fans and journalists are uncovering some surprising potential specs.
The iPhone 5′s camera is a regular subject of speculation.
Many tech blogs have noted that the iPhone 5′s back-facing camera is probably a much more advanced version of the iPhone 4S’s 8MP camera, and according to recent reports, a Lytro camera sensor will provide the iPhone 5 with enhanced stability and better picture-taking capabilities.
Analysts expect an impressive list of iPhone 5 features when Apple announces the device in June.
If Lytro is involved in the iPhone 5, buyers will immediately notice a difference in picture quality. The Lytro camera sensor offers a significant upgrade in terms of color reproduction and functionality. The camera’s sensor reacts to minor changes in light to create fast, accurate pictures.
iPhone 5 users will likely notice less blurring, and as the camera will likely retain the 8MP quality of the iPhone 4S’s camera, iPhone fans can take realistic shots from the iPhone 5′s back camera without worrying about lighting or setting.
Some Apple insiders also claim that the iphone 5 features will include a physical camera button to make on-the-go pictures even easier, but given the minimalist design of previous iPhone models, this seems possible but unlikely.
While Apple has not confirmed Lytro’s involvement in the iPhone 5, Steve Jobs met with members of the company before his death in 2011. The inclusion of a Lytro camera sensor makes sense, given the iPhone’s history of envelope-pushing camera features. However, it is unlikely that the front-facing camera will use a Lytro sensor, as this would likely push up the overall cost of the iPhone 5. As Apple is dealing with tough competition from Android phone developers, a minor price increase could make a major difference.
As the first iPhone released after the death of Steve Jobs, the iPhone 5 will need to improve on the iPhone 4S in virtually every possible way.
Lytro camera sensors would certainly provide the sort of breathtaking feature that makes Apple iPhones stand out among high-end smart phones.
